Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced the launch of the Mediterranean Africa Express Service (MAX) — a new dedicated weekly shipping service linking West Africa directly to global trade lanes via the Mediterranean.
The service commences 7 July 2026.
The route
The MAX service operates on a weekly rotation of Algeciras, Tangier, Dakar, Tema, Lekki (Lagos), and Abidjan — returning to Algeciras. Through the Algeciras and Tangier hubs, the service provides onward connections to:
→ Far East Asia
→ Northern Europe
→ Indian Subcontinent
→ North America
→ Latin America
The context
The launch comes at a time when demand for reliable, flexible connections between West Africa and major international markets is rising. Shippers across the region have been seeking dependable transit times and more routing options — particularly as supply chains become increasingly complex.
The MAX service is ONE’s direct answer to that demand.
What it means for Ghana
Tema Port sits on the MAX rotation. This gives Ghanaian shippers direct access to ONE’s extensive global network, which spans over 120 countries and operates a fleet of over 280 vessels with a combined capacity exceeding 2.2 million TEUs.
For Ghana’s ambition of becoming a leading maritime and trade hub in the Gulf of Guinea, developments like this are exactly the kind of investment signal the sector needs to see.
Mr. Hosaka, Managing Director of ONE (Europe), put it plainly: the company is committed to investment and growth in Africa, and the MAX service strengthens the direct links between West Africa and key global trade routes.
